Introducing: Lt. Gen. Shahid Aziz

November 11th, 2007 · Shaan Akbar · 3 Comments

Tonight, I have the pleasure of introducing the Insider Brief’s very first guest: Lieutenant General Shahid Aziz.

A retired general of the Pakistan Army, he has had an extraordinary military career that gave him a front row seat to some of Pakistan’s most pivotal events over the past decade, culminating in his role as Lahore Corps Commander. Out of uniform, he continued to serve the public as the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), a post he left earlier this year. (Read his detailed biography here.)

In a recent exchange with Gen. Aziz, I mentioned American willingness to throw financial and military resources at the US presence in Afghanistan to “finish the job.” Later tonight, he will be posting his response to that comment, the first in a continuous series of posts from notable Pakistanis on the Insider Brief.

An article with a balanced approach.

Introduction is not complete as yet, a selfless person like general might get angry but there are few things which belong to our next generations therefore I take the liberty to disclose a story about
    Lt.col shahid Aziz,
august 1992 is remembered for svere flood in river jehlum and chenab.A pakistani border post is cutt off because of flood and somebody needs to swim across right infront of Indian positions to our own post and pass those people cirtain instructions.Shahid Aziz refuse to allow anybody
    to this job but
At the middle of the night the oldman jumps himself into swift cuurent ,Indians get suspicious and open fire resulting in sad shahadat of his second in command.Old Lt colonel was unable to fight the swift current and drifted right into Indian land
and goes missing for 4 hours.Everybody thought he is dead too but after resting for four hours on Indian land right inside their defenses without passport he swims back drifts an other mile but made it back safe and sound.since now he is retired I think there is no harm in making it public.
