Musharaf announcement of emergency is just for the sake of saving his position.
the big question is why the emergency is to the extent of suspension of constiution and judiciary.
whatever he is doing, the country would definitely face the severe results but in the long run.

II think Justice Iftikhar was probably rising before Musharraf came to power – he may have thought he had full control of the country, but obviously didn’t. He was always a dictator… just had the West’s backinging so the propoganda machine was running overtime.

I don’t think that up until now Musharraf was ever really as bad as the dictatorships of Zia or Pinochet et al. After all, someone who was as anti-government as Justice Iftikhar would never ever have made it up the ranks to the top post in the judiciary during Zia’s time. However, now with his back against the wall, I think we are witnessing the birth of the real dictator within Musharraf.
